HMS Canopus
Sherwood (40 Eridani) is a triple star system, with the planets orbiting a main-sequence dwarf (a bit big and red in the sky but one can get used to it). The white dwarf and red dwarf flare star orbit around 400AU out, and don’t affect the life of the system much.
This is one of the first settled worlds, and local population is around 50,000,000. Most of the traffic between Earth and the rest of British space comes through here. There’s a small independence movement but it’s not taken very seriously.
Canopus is a refitted, which in practice means practically rebuilt from the keel out, war-era battleship.
Morrish is a junior helmsman. Captain (RM) Julian Winthrop-Chase is terribly polished and has an eye for the ladies. Lt Cdr Matthew Stonely is a supply officer, while Lt Peter Tovey is a junior navigator.
