He doesn’t noticeably wake up as Bessie drives across London, or as he’s helped into the theatre’s boiler room and tied into place; the ladies play cards. After half an hour, Henwright shows no sign of the shine, though there’s a “puddle” of it round his feet, fading. (There are some drops of sweat, but there’s no physical object matching the puddle.) Bessie tries to get a sample, though it’s pretty much gone.
The group gets Henwright back out, then takes him home and leaves him on his doorstep; Gertrude sees that he’s let in (by an unsurprised-looking landlady).
