Millie gets everyone’s clothes in order, and the group takes the train to Bedford, then a local bus to Cardington. The house shows signs, to the discerning, of a recent change of occupation: normal furniture and knick-knacks have been pushed aside, and a young woman is furiously drawing plans for a huge airship, clearly rather larger than the ones currently being constructed. Introductions are made to Molly Wallis, and with some difficulty she’s persuaded to talk about the R101 rather than the bigger airships that she’s more interested in working on. Bessie divines on the R101 plans, and gets a feeling of problems all across the upper surface. Molly talks at length about all the things that the idiots at the Royal Airship Works have got wrong.
