Training interphase 1
Several months into training, things are mostly going well.
-
Findlay does all right on the study, but collapses, apparently from misuse of steroids in an attempt to gain muscle mass. His fellow cadets get him to sickbay but don’t peach about the drugs; he says he’ll do better in future.
-
Fleming is trying to live down being “Velcro Wall Girl”; she gets on well with intensive training, but doesn’t self-motivate when the pressure comes off. She seems to have a knack for computers.
-
Gretton studies hard, and is occasionally reminded to come up for air.
-
Isomäki does everything, apparently without needing to sleep. He’s clearly had plenty of free-fall and vacc suit experience before.
-
Keene is working through the basics, particularly computers, and paying attention to military law, now that he’s seen how enthusiastic some of comrades are for getting into trouble.
-
Morrish is mostly spending time in the library, often working jointly with Gretton, Stark and Stratton.
-
Piper claims never to have flown anything except crop-dusting drones, but when he gets into a cockpit things just work for him. But he spends a great deal of time in piloting simulations, overdoes it, and collapses. He and Findlay chat while in sickbay.
-
Quaid buckles down to the work, but continues to pick fights whenever he has a chance.
-
Stark is head down in the books, grimly getting on with it. She does well in tactical problems, though she claims to have seen most of them before. Her fellow cadets try to avoid bringing up the subject of her family.
-
Stratton keeps largely to herself and often studies into the night.
-
Whitfield spends more effort looking for an easy way to do things than doing them the hard way would take. This eventually comes back to bite and he takes a minor decompression injury.
