These cultures date to various periods before the Greek/Hellenic civilization began to dominate the Mediterranean.
City on the River Jordan
The region north of the Black Sea between the River Don and the Carpathian Mountains was inhabited by the Scythians from the C7th to the C1st BC. They did not leave written records but their spectacular burial mounds and fine ornaments and vases have been found by archaeologists. The Sarmatians began to supersede then by the mid C4th BC.
The Urartian people inhabited modern Armenia around 700 BC.
